Trayvon Martin and Malala Yousafzai.

In the past five minutes alone and simply in my county:

"-Police have arrested members of a gang whose motto is to "rape, kill. and control."
-A shooting downtown killed a 29 year old man and wounded a woman.
-A 5 week year old baby was killed by it's own brother by smashing it's head.
-An abortion doctor convicted of killing three babies is spared the death penalty.
-Two teenagers killed a toddler for sport."
How much air time did all this get on the news?
Two minutes, maybe less.
Do all of these news reports not involve murder?
Why are people not in the streets about these issues?
What happened to Trayvon Martin was tragic.
I can't imagine the grief that the family is going through at this time.
I read on a news site that "Although Zimmerman was not found guilty. That does not mean that he was not responsible."
Of course Zimmerman is responsible for Trayvon's death.
Zimmerman pulled the trigger.
That is about the only concrete evidence that everyone has and can agree on.
Everything else in this entire trial has just been hearsay.
Facts are that a 17 year old boy was shot by a neighborhood watchman.
Every picture in the media shows a 12 year old and kinder garden picture of Trayvon and a mugshot of Zimmerman.
Play fair.
Trayvon was 17 years old and did not walk around in a hollister shirt all the time.
Zimmerman's daily attire was not county orange and rugged beard.
No one will ever truly know what happened that night.
No one will ever truly know how hard it was for the jurors to make a decision.
A panel of 6 women. Five were Caucasian women and one of a different race.
All of them knowing that their decision would cause a lot of animosity.
Zimmerman is Hispanic and Trayvon was African American.
These 6 women were neither of those two, so throw the race card out.
Zimmerman could have done many things differently that night.
Trayvon could have done many things differently as well.
But according to the judicial system, it could not convict Zimmerman.
That doesn't take away the pain that the Martin family is going through, if anything it intensifies it.
That doesn't make Zimmerman feel at ease, if anything his life is forever in danger.
But it does require us to accept the outcome.
We cannot change it.
Why riot?
All throughout history we have strived for a fair judicial system.
One which allows everyone an equal opportunity and fair trial.
Martin's family had one of the best attorney's.
They tried everything they could.
At the end of the day there just wasn't enough evidence to convict.
The trial was fair for both parties.
And the judge could not just convict him without having enough evidence.
The judicial system played as fairly as they could with the information that was given to them.
Let's not digress back to where we use to be.
On a personal note, because of this uproar
I have been feeling like if I ever needed to protect myself in self-defense...would I be convicted of murder as well?
It is scary to think about.
Because if it truly was self-defense then we have sure shown Zimmerman that self-defense is not allowed these days.
If Trayvon was simply shot for no reason,
it shows me that this country is in desperate need of Jesus.
If Zimmerman could have that much hate for a person that he didn't know, enough to shoot him...
What is this world coming to?
However,
I think about Malala Yousafzai.
A 16 year old girl who was shot on the left side of her head and her neck by the Taliban for simply wanting an education.
She miraculously survived.
In her first speech since getting out of the hospital, she said:
"I do not even hate the Talib who shot me. Even if there is a gun in my hand and he stands in front of me. I would not shoot him. This is the compassion that I have learnt from Muhammad-the prophet of mercy, Jesus christ and Lord Buddha. This is the legacy of change that I have inherited from Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and Muhammad Ali Jinnah. This is the philosophy of non-violence that I have learnt from Gandhi Jee, Bacha Khan and Mother Teresa. And this is the forgiveness that I have learnt from my mother and father. This is what my soul is telling me, be peaceful and love everyone."
If a 16 year old girl can get it right, can't we at least try?
If a young girl can get shot by the Taliban, with the reality that there will never be a trial in court, and still have love for them, can't we do the same?
You don't fight fire with fire.
You fight it with grace.
A jury can say that Zimmerman is innocent.
A jury can say that Zimmerman is guilty.
A jury can say that O.J. Simpson is innocent.
A jury can say that Trayvon is innocent.
A jury can say that Jesus is guilty.
But at the end of the day "Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord" Romans 12:19.

  2. I couldn't agree more on all of this the last verse and what that girl said "be peaceful and love everyone" that truly spoke to me. Well some Lydia, the world should see this.
